Two ME
Professors Receive PSES Awards -
Sean Brennan and Chao-Yang Wang received awards from
the College of Engineering's allumni constituent organization
(PSES) at an awards ceremony that was held on Friday,
March 31, 2007, at the Kunkle Activities Center, Hammond
Building.
Sean Brennan, Assistant Professor
of Mechanical Engineering received the Outstanding
Teaching Award. "Dr. Brennan has superbly taught
in the important area of vehicle dynamics, which
is of interest to many students in our department.
He has been a significant contributor to the research
conducted at the Pennsylvania Transportation Institute
by uniquely developing methods that can simulate
aircraft and wind tunnel systems. He has used his
expertise in providing real-world, hands-on experiences
to both our undergraduate and graduate students." The award acknowledges faculty who
show a special talent and commitment to teaching.
Chao-Yang
Wang, Distinguished
Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Director
of the Electrochemical Engine Center, received the
Premier Research Award "for his work in being
the first to develop a fundamental theory of two-phase
transport in fuel cells, which is highly cited in
the literature. This theory has provided an
understanding needed for the development of small
fuel cells for portable electronics. In addition
to his exceptional achievements in research, Dr.
Wang has done outstanding in advising graduate students.
His influence in the fuel cell area extends beyond
his laboratory through his former PhD students who
are now working in academia and research laboratories
throughout the world." The award goes to an
individual whose contributions to scientific knowledge
through research are exemplary and internationally
acclaimed.
