"This research being conducted at the Gas Dynamics Lab aims at gaining an understanding of the aerodynamics of the olfaction process through a series of flow visualization experiments as well as modeling efforts. Currently, flow visualization is being used to understand the aerodynamics of the canine nostril."

Research being conducted by the Engineering Design & Optimization Group (EDOG), seeks to "develop design methodologies for smart surgical instruments for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS). The goal is to optimally design multifunctional tools which can be used to perform more than one task, thus reducing tool changeover time in MIS procedures. Topology optimization methods are being developed to design such multifunctional tools with integrated smart materials. Both piezoelectric ceramic and electroactive polymer materials may be used."
