Executive Summary
Meals on Wheels of State College has been serving the communtity since 1971. Our sponsor is in
need of a safe and reliable elevator lift, in the basement of Grace Lutheran Church, to sufficiently
transport food in and out of the kitchen. The elevator will also be accessible to the handicapped
and elderly. The goal of the project is to modify the existing lift system into a more efficient
and user friendly elevator. In order to meet ADA requirements, the ramp needed to be doubled to
the length of fifty inches. Two brackets were installed to increase the stability of the lift
platform when it is in the full up position. In addition, new control switches were placed in the
lift and at the top level. A total of four designs were created and then evaluated for cost, time,
and accessiblity. The major areas of study included material research, design development, design
analysis and CAD drawing.
