EPICS and Penn State University have together proposed a project that has the potential of enhancing field events in Para Olympic sports. The primary goal of this design project is to create a chair that will allow Jeffery Hantz, a Paralympic athlete, to throw the javelin, discus, and shot put with greater distance and accuracy. The project will be created from previous and new ideas, with the hopes of developing a throwing chair that will aid Jeff in his throwing while conforming to the guidelines of the sport. The objectives of this project are to maximize Jeff’s skills, create a chair that allows optimum force will confining to the specific rules set by the International Paralympic Committee, and to help Jeff enter the 2004 Olympics. The development process will begin with brainstorming and making comparisons to current models and techniques. Tasks will be divided amongst the team to make better use of our time. A Gantt Chart has been included to view the deliverables and there delivery dates. The project budget will remain at or under the proposed budget of $600. Communication will take place often between our team, the project contact, Teri Jordan Lucas, and the Para Olympic athlete, Jeff Hantz, so there is no confusion. Once our team, contact, and athlete agree upon a design, construction will begin. The deliverables for this project are a throwing chair that is safe, productive and efficient. Finally by April 23, 2002 a finished product will be delivered.
