The Directional Pad concept came with the 1st version of the Leaper.
Originally (figure to bottom left) came with some problems.
- Diamond shape
- Arrow stickers turn
- Wiring weak
In the redesign process, these areas were approached. A rotation of 90
degrees was implemented to create a square rather then diamond. The action
added several inches of room where the child's chest would be located.
New stickers with animal pictures and a permanently affixed compass were
designed. The switch level wiring was re-soldered and reinforced with
heat shrink tubing.
