To read the encoders we just need the Board PCI 6601 installed to our XPC target, a break-out board and our encoder.

Simulink for a simple encoder
This Simulink model was successfully downloaded into the XPC target and it calculated the velocity out of the counts given by the encoders.
It includes blocks such blocks gains ( to divide the number of counts by the counts per revolution) , derivative block and several kind of scope blocks.

When we click in the PCI 6601 block this window shows up. We can determine the channel we're working on(1-4) and the sample time which has to be multiple of the fixed-step of the model.
