Origami Engineering

We are working on EFRI-ODISSEI National Science Foundation funded project, "Multi-field Responsive Origami Structures - Advancing the Emerging Frontier of Active Compliant Mechanisms”.

Our objective is to develop multi-field active materials to yield on demand large bending and folding. We have been working with different electroactive(EAPs) polymers, such as dielectric elastomer (DE) and P(VDF-TrFE-CTFE) as active materials to achieve active origami structures. We are also conducting electrical and mechanical characterization of these polymers using research facilities in our lab and lab facilities throughout the campus to better understand the underlying physics of their actuation mechanism. Moreover, we are working with nanofillers and particles to develop novel multi-field active materials.
