Meet the Counselors

Career counselors are available Monday-Friday in the E-Knowledge Commons in Reber Building.

Brenda Colby

Brenda Colby

Brenda is a career counseling master’s student. She is particularly interested in helping students realize and succeed in their career goals. She’s also a teacher and a small business owner. Brenda has lived in State College with her family since she was a Penn State undergrad. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, playing board games with her family, and binge-watching her favorite TV shows and movies — when she has the time!

Terry Cummins

Terry Cummins

Terry is a career counseling master’s student and an HDFS instructor for internship preparation at Penn State World Campus. She works with students to identify their strengths and weaknesses, engage in professional development, and find internship experiences that help support their career goals and apply their academic knowledge to hands-on learning. When not working or studying, Terry enjoys traveling to different countries and attending various sporting events.

Mary Fisk

Mary Fisk

Mary is a master’s candidate student in counselor education with an emphasis in career counseling. Mary also works in the Office of Veterans Programs at University Park and lives in Bellefonte with her three pug dogs. She enjoys assisting students in achieving their goals and realizing their full potential. In her spare time, Mary loves spending time outdoors with her dogs, gardening, and traveling, particularly with her daughter, who lives in Aspen, Colorado.

Chris Hughes

Chris Hughes

Chris was born and raised in Southern California before moving to Las Vegas shortly after high school. He attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas and received his bachelor’s degree in psychology. Chris is part of the counselor education master’s program at Penn State with an emphasis on career counseling. In his spare time, Chris likes to read comics, play games, and listen to music.

Yangyang Liu

Yangyang Liu

Yangyang is a first-year master’s student in counselour education with an emphasis on career counseling. Originally from Zhejiang, China, she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from UC San Diego. She loves interacting with and supporting students in their personal and career development. In her free time, she enjoys spending quality time with friends, watching Japanese anime, singing, and taking walks.

Lillian Ma

Lilian Ma

Lilian is a master’s student in the counseling program. She is from Taiwan and likes to experience new things and different cultures. She loves to help people and prides herself on being a good listener. Her mottos are “live life to the fullest” and “aim high, dream big!”

Yuan Zheng

Yuan Zheng

Yuan is a master’s candidate student in the counselor education program. She majored in applied psychology during her undergraduate studies and was responsible for research about career planning. Because of her outstanding academic performance and practical experiences, she graduated with honors.
